DC Council Member’s Failure to Document Contribution Spurs Reform

The Washington Post: “A majority of D.C. Council members say the city must prevent a repeat of the way council member Brandon T. Todd (D-Ward 4) was able to successfully run for reelection last year, while city auditors had privately concluded that he could not document more than $100,000 in contributions from his previous race.

“Campaign reports from Todd’s subsequent win in 2016 were also riddled with omissions, according to an analysis by The Washington Post, making it hard to track many contributions to their source.

“Problems with Todd’s back-to-back campaigns have focused attention on the District’s Office of Campaign Finance and whether the long-troubled agency is helping or hindering the D.C. government’s quest to shed a reputation for corrupt politics.”
